The Judiciary Police arrested, in Boliqueime, in the Algarve, one of the most wanted men in the United Kingdom, who is strongly suspected of committing crimes of criminal association and illicit drug trafficking.
The detainee, aged 40, is the leader of a criminal organization dedicated to the international trafficking of cocaine and hashish in large quantities and had been on the run for around two years, following a court decision.
The man, of foreign nationality, used false identification in Portugal.
According to the PJ, in criminal activity in the United Kingdom, episodes of violence and escape from authorities with attempted run-overs are still known.
The suspect’s arrest occurred in the context of international police cooperation with the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA), in compliance with an international arrest warrant issued by the United Kingdom’s judicial authorities.
The detainee will be present at the Court of Appeal in Évora, in order to consider his extradition to the requesting country, Scotland.
