Hello Team Amy H.!
Here we are well in 2017! It's hard to believe how quickly 2016 went. It was a good year full of family, friends, new opportunities, some travel and best of all consistent health. I am happy to report my health status is remaining stable. For the first time since I was diagnosed with Lupus 36 years ago, I am ever so slowly being weaned off of prednisone. Each decrease brings an adjustment period, but so far I am tolerating it. The goal is to be prednisone free. Yay! Also good news, it's been four years since my "year of joint surgeries"(hard to believe!), and I am happy to report all three bionic parts are going strong. Of course the twice weekly PT sessions (yes, I am a glutton for punishment), walking our dog daily and proper follow-up and care have helped to achieve this. Another milestone of sorts is I am approaching my eight year anniversary of my Pulmonary Hypertension diagnosis. Considering this is a progressive disease, I am thrilled to be stable. My doctor says she couldn't hope for better, so I plan on staying this way!
On Saturday, May 20th, the New Jersey Walk with Us to Cure Lupus will be held once again. This year I will not be able to physically join the walk, as we have previously made travel plans. However, I have signed up as a Virtual Walker and I ask that you join me in the quest to find a cure for lupus by making a pledge on my behalf, or registering to virtually walk beside me.
The Lupus Research Alliance’s Walk with Us to Cure Lupus is a national fundraising program that changes lives and brings people together in the common goal to find a cure for lupus.
Lupus is a devastating autoimmune disease that affects an estimated 1.5 million Americans, making the disease more common than leukemia, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and cystic fibrosis. The exact cause of lupus is unknown and there is no known cure.
I choose to walk with Lupus Research Alliance because of its commitment to prevent, treat and cure lupus. Since 1999 the Lupus Research Alliance has committed over $100-million to lupus research, making it the largest private funder of lupus research in the world.
You can make a donation to my personal fundraising page by clicking on Donate Now or "Make a Gift!"
100% of your donation will go to support lupus research programs, because the Lupus Research Alliance Board of Directors funds all fundraising and administrative costs.
By supporting me in my fundraising efforts, we are ensuring that the Lupus Research Alliance can continue to advance medical research and help the many people living with this disease.
